Frailty Myths Intro to Sailing Workshop *For Female Identified People Only Feb. 18th 2017
Sailing can give people one of the most incredible and profound sensations there is however it is largely dominated by men and often inaccessible to many due to cost.
Frailty Myths is very excited to launch our first sailing workshop for female identified folks only.
The workshop will include discussions on the societal myths that surround sailing, boats, and how the culture of masculinity defines the boating world in ways that intentionally excludes female identified people. We will learn how to tie knots that can be used for sailing but also lots of other great applications. Each participant will learn the parts of a sailboat, experience sailing on the bay, and have the opportunity to steer and crew the boat. At Frailty Myths, we know that we are strong, capable, and physical creatures – and that those things do not come at the cost of our femininity.
All equipment will be provided. Please wear sneakers, bring a water bottle and a sack lunch and appropriate clothing for exercise. This workshop runs from 9am-5:30pm and will begin and end in Richmond. Please note possible cancellation due to weather conditions.
The speed and direction of the workshop will be participant led.
All of the facilitators are female and work/live in the Bay Area
The objective of the workshop is to have an empowering afternoon learning new skills, confronting social myths, and gaining strength from each other.
